MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

John and Lynn, the Book

One of my brother's sons in-law asked me to tell him about John's childhood/youth when we were at John's funeral. I didn't know where to begin, and there wasn't much time at the funeral! So I told him I would write it down for him. My brother's funeral was in 1992. How am I doing?

But I have decided the time has come. I want to make our story into a picture book. With lots of pictures someone might actually read it! Now can someone recommend a good site on the internet wherein I might make a book, and where it wouldn't cost a fortune to make copies? Anyone?

We really were products of the Great Depression and "The War"......we never talked about WWII....we just talked about "the war"....It was very much a part of our lives from the time I was seven years old until I was almost 12.

I have this really cute picture of John and I with our mother Mary when I was about 2, John was 18 months older so he was about 3 1/2. If you look closely you will see we are standing in front of a blanket hanging on a clothesline....Does anyone still know what a clothesline is? This photo is a reminder that there wasn't money for a professional....but pretty cool that they had enough money to buy film. We're pretty decently dressed too.

GUILTY AS CHARGED!

So it isn't our watering day.....it is after watering hours....we're not supposed to wash our driveways....and I just did! Our neighbor honked as he was leaving his driveway....was he honking goodbye to his wife....was he honking to let me know he saw me....was he honking goodbye to me because he was going to turn me in?????All these questions....no simple answers. LONG LIVE THE DELTA SMELT!

The amazing catalpa tree!

This tree h as been so beautiful this year...from the deck it makes me feel like I am in Hawaii..I'm not sure the photos will do it justice.

We got this tree as a volunteer, from Grace Reid...so we have had it a long time, but it has really finally blossomed...

I just added this photo because I love the new doors from the dining room....from the inside, you really feel the 'outside' coming in....Does that make sense?

Uh Oh!!!!!!!

So I wanted to add a photo for posterity that shows my husband's ingenious solution! 'Jack 'of all trades :)

We discovered a very disturbing situation with our wonderful new deck....on the south side it had dropped about 4 inches! After taking off a few deck boards, we discovered the support board attached to the block wall, had detached from the wall....

Doesn't look like we will run out of projects...We jacked it up....had trouble fitting jacks under the board, so Dad rigged up a pulley system where he balanced a large jack on top of the wall, pulled the deck up...we had to do it in sections...there were some painful crunching sounds....now all he has to do is put some larger bolts into the wall and assume they will hold it...

The Latest!

Olivia was sick, fell asleep on Grandpa's lap...Guess we didn't work ALL the time

When we got home, we bought this awesome Navigator...actually we made the deal in about 15 minutes the night before we flew to Kentucky...only we didn't have the car and they didn't have the money....Of course we needed a bigger vehicle to tow a bigger trailer....I didn't know we had plans to tow it anywhere...silly me! But I did get to pick out what we bought...He got to choose the carpet, I got to choose the car...sweet!

We had a busy and rewarding long weekend...Unfortunately I took few pictures. Friday didn't start so well with a car rental experience that left us by the side of the road! The car registered NO oil....so we had Randy rescue us and told the Fox rental company they could come pick up their car....

Saturday was better...we got to watch Lucas team in a soccer game...great fun....Randy and Rachel hosted a Davis gathering Saturday night...Rachel is definitely a creative cook...awesome h'or deourves....(I have NEVER learned how to spell that!)...there were tributes to Sean and Liam...a limerick from Dix, and birthday wishes to the March birthday people...lots of March people!

Saturday afternoon Rand took us to the top of the point of the mountain to show us the view from north or south...the pics of Rand and Dix are looking south to Provo....there is a whole development of homes on top of that ridge...Also notice Rand is sporting probably the best beard a Davis man has grown...way to go Rand...

We stayed with Gary and Jean Saturday night, Sunday was Sean's farewell...he gave a great talk with amazing poise...we didn't take pictures of Sean either...I know some people did...then Vauna's family gathered at Mike's and the Mitch Davis's and McBeths gathered at Mitchells....

We took some pictures after the blessing...I was impressed that Liam had two sets of grandparents and 4 sets of great grandparents, alive and breathing, and there. Amazing!

Monday I went to my new favorite chirpractor in Park City (I like the sound of that, yeah, I have to go see my chiro in Park City!) and Dad went skiing with Mitch....he hasn't skiid in a long time....did it wearing a helmet, good thing in lieu of the latest news from the slopes. Spent Monday night at Mike's, then on to home. We finally got our car back (for those who didn't know it was rear ended for the second time), and we are just puttering on small projects, trying to get rid of colds before we go to Kentucky Monday...I think we had better start airborne now! Love you all

Fall in Escondido

Fall has finally come to Escondido...this was taken a few days ago....Our liquid amber tree has never looked better....this is the one at the bottom of our driveway...trees all over town look great this year. There is a new community called San Elijo Hills over the hill from San Marcos that reminds me of an eastern community...they planted a lot of color trees...we went through unexpectedly and loved the way it looked.....We have had enough cold this year to do its work!
