Our Big Road Trip 2013

Here is our trip in a nutshell….a very big nut…3386 plus miles.  We wish we had taken pictures of each stop, but we didn’t.

Day #1 Took Sean to dinner in Cedar City.  Stayed in Beaver…

Day #2 Drove through towns dad has always wanted to see :Pintura (maybe 5 houses)  Holden,Kanosh and Meadow (not necessarily in that order

We drove through the Mt. Nebo loop.

friend -girl Maren and really enjoyed her.  Drove to Heber.

Took Kyle and Jeanette for ice cream in Rexburg.  Spent the night in Butte Montana.  What a surprise Butte was!

Day #6 Spent half a day touring Butte.  It was a major copper/silver mining community, has a huge open pit mine, had a major disaster in the early  1900’s.  Lots of old buildings, like a semi-ghost town largely occupied.  At one time Butte was larger than New York City.  Full of immigrants.  The disaster killed men from many countries.  Their flags are embedded in the memorial to the disaster.

Drove to Glacier National Park, spent the night with an awesome view of Lake McDonald in Apgar.

These photos of Lake McDonald were all within a 24 hour period

Day #7.  Drove to Avalanche and took an .8 mile walk through the woods to a beautiful waterfall.  You can even hear it with us :)

From the park we headed towards Grants Pass and spent the night in Kennewick Washington.

Day #8 Drove to Grants Pass to spend the night with the McCulloughs.  Tom talked us into staying another day.  Good idea!  We were road weary.
Day #9  Visited with McCulloughs more and took them to dinner at a beautiful restaurant on the Rogue River in Grants Pass, the Taprock.

Day #10 Bade farewell to the McCulloughs and tried to go to church.  We were misinformed of the time in Grants Pass, so headed to Central Point (Medford)  which was farther than we realized.  We got about 10 minutes of the spirit, walked around the temple, and headed out.

We visited with one of dad’s college roommates and wife, Fred Lourence in Red Bluff..  (He is a big fan of the Other Side of Heaven)  Then we drove to Roseville CA and took Dad’s cousin Pat and her fiancĂ© Bob to dinner.  Pat’s most recent husband died about 3 years ago and she and Bob found each other through friends…They will be married in a couple of weeks. We stayed in Roseville, road weary again.

Day #11 Headed to Half Moon Bay,, slowly…Our Google app had been working awesomely, but in the middle of San Francisco she stopped talking to us.  Not good!  Picked Josh up at school, spent the afternoon/evening enjoying the family and sharing family night.  We 4 adults went for a walk out to where we could see Mavricks.  It was a beautiful day in Half Moon Bay.

Day #12..Drove home….stopped at Rose Hills Cemetery to follow up on the situation with dad and mom’s headstones.  They are nicely restored.

Suffered thru about 200 miles of heavy traffic, including highway 78 in San Marcos

Happy to be home, happy to have seen so many family and friends.

Liam and Rebecca

Rachel, Ryan and Liam came to visit on December 1st, as did Vanessa and Rebecca. Pictures don't quite capture the fun it was watching them...Liam is into mimicking....Rebecca picked up on that and improvised activities for him to copy...they were adorable! (Liam and Rebecca...not Rachel and Ryan!) Remember, Rebecca and Rachel are the cousins!
